Breaking the Cycle: How I Made Movement Fun Again in My 40s
Share
I had a heart-to-heart with my bestie this week the kind of chat that dives into real stuff. We talked about food, movement, and the tangled guilt that often comes with both.
For years, I felt like I had to earn the food I ate. I’d eat the biscuits (always the biscuits!), but then I’d tell myself I had to "run them off." It was all about balance but not the kind that felt good. It was the kind that felt like a punishment.
That’s not how I think anymore.
Now, I want movement that feels good.
I’m done with workouts that feel like a chore. I want movement that lifts me up, energises me, and fits naturally into my life not the other way around.
I'm learning to find a rhythm that works for me. That might look like a gentle walk with a beautiful view, a spontaneous kitchen dance party, or a quick stretch squeezed into a busy day.
Food is part of this shift too.
These days, I still want food that tastes amazing but I also want it to serve me well. Lately, I’ve been playing with the balance of protein and carbohydrates, and I’ve noticed how much better I feel when I fuel my body in a way that works for me.
This blog isn’t advice—it’s an invitation.
I’m not here to hand out rules or tell you what you should do. Instead, I’m encouraging you to tune in and figure out what feels right for you.
Here’s what’s working for me right now:
-
Moving in beautiful places parks, beaches, hills with views that make me breathe deeper.
-
Choosing joyful activities fun, freeing, and definitely not part of a “6-week shred.”
-
Listening to my energy gentle when I need it, high energy when I’m feeling it.
-
Keeping it real movement that fits into a busy schedule, not one that adds pressure to it.
I move because it makes me feel alive.
I eat because I enjoy food.
To move for you.
To move with love.
To break the cycle.
Over on socials, I’ll be sharing how I make movement simple and food feel balanced. You’ll see ideas, inspiration, and of course the occasional guilt-free biscuit and cakes!
Let’s rewrite the story, one joyful step at a time. 💛
